New Moon in Cancer for 2021: Emotional Wellbeing

Trevor Scott

July 9th, 2021 — Cancer being the cardinal sign that it is, shows us that the coming lunar cycle centers itself around initiating or acting on what makes us feel good, comfortable, safe and at home. In the late degrees of Cancer, both the Moon and Sun highlight any emotional entanglements we might have that should be recognized and managed accordingly (Mercury in 12th sign from Moon). This is an incredibly dreamy, lovesick and creative lunar cycle, as one could engage in numerous artistic, romantic or spiritual pursuits.

Mars and Venus, the fighter and lover, which oppose a strong retrograde Saturn, are adjacent to the New Moon, which provide a resource to our emotional health through individual creation. Whatever creative or artistic endeavors you might find yourself engaged in, don’t stop. Saturn can force us to get into a mode of repetition, for good or ill. Leo is ruled by the Sun, which is in the sign of the Moon. The entire cycle is ruled by one’s ability to trust and allow positive experiences to flow into life, not by willfully forcing them to conform to our ideals. The Sun is the logical masculine energy, but the Moon is the emotional and intuitive side that gives birth to creativity and inspiration. Focusing on Swadhisthana (the chakra that is governed by the Moon) is vital for maximizing the potential of this lunar phase.

Meanwhile, Mercury is in a dominant sign aspecting Neptune (in the 9th sign from the New Moon). He’s playing the middle-man, going back and forth between realistically looking at the facts of the mundane world and what dreams or fantasies we envision could bring us internal fulfillment. There could be a lot of mental activity and negative speech that could undo one’s kingdom. Or, conversely, our speech and our mental habits can maintain the positive emotional states cultivated through the sign of Cancer.

It should also be noted that the ‘Grand Kite’ aspect centers upon the opposition between the 8th (what we do not control) and 2nd (what we own) zodiacal signs from the New Moon, which correspond with realistically coming to terms with one’s passions and inspirations (creativity and artistic expression), or anything that supports our emotional well-being, as a means of unwinding one’s psycho-emotional fixations. The aspect focuses on the sign of Leo: unique expression of one’s talents and identity. Furthermore, it is through uncoiling from the things we are clinging to, we can have more space or grace (Jupiter critical degree in Pisces) to house more positive emotions (Cancer) and to better express our uniqueness (Leo nature).

New Moon Opposed Pluto – Hidden Pulling

Because the Moon signifies nourishment, and Pluto represents, in general, transformations that the ego must endure to evolve the soul-self, there is a strong pull towards extremes in denying and accepting emotionally fulfilling experiences in one’s environment, and whether or not to eliminate or strengthen connections to one’s tribe or family group.

What Make’s this New Moon so Positive?

The malefic planets are gaining strength in their dominant placements from the New Moon’s position, since Mars likes being in Leo, comforted by Venus, and Saturn is at home in Aquarius, being the 8th house/sign of death and destruction. There should be great longevity towards the positive emotional experiences of life. Saturn is inimical towards the Sun; they don’t like each other. Luckily, they are so far away from one another that neither feels threatened or done hard by the other. Saturn feels comfortable and so does the Sun.

This shows a month of positive emotional growth when the burdens of life don’t consume our mind and spirit. We are able to consistently support our life goals and vision in a positive and comfortable way — this chart feels good on the emotional level. There is a strong potential for the satisfaction and the fulfillment of desires.
