Venus and Ketu Transit in Sagittarius: Letting Go of High Expectations in Relationships

Trevor Scott

Sagittarius is symbolized by the mythical centaur, half man and half horse, aiming his bow to the horizon. It’s a sign about big ideals, big dreams, big stories and hopes for a grandiose future. The centaur symbol also relates to the two opposing natures in man, the animal-nature that wishes to indulge in base desires: food, sleep and sex, and the human nature that aspires for greater meaning and purpose. Naturally, Venus can go two routes here, the path of the animal or the path of man. Moreover, when Venus, the sign of love, sexuality and enjoyment of the material world transits through this sign, it’s time to reassess the beliefs and meanings we contrive from relationships — both with people and with the pleasurable things of this world.

Venus and the South Node conjunct in Sagittarius on December 31, 2020. The lord of this conjunction is Jupiter, situated in the spirited and progressive sign of Aquarius in the 3rd sign with the great malefic: Saturn.

The South Node/Ketu acts a lot like Neptune; it causes aspects of our world to dissolve and detached from the ego. There is more disinterest and apathy rather than obsession and lustful desire when the south node touches a planet. Yet, it also adds more emotion, compassion and intense yearnings over romantic fantasies. These are all key themes with this transit.

Venus and its Significations

It represents those who give comfort or pleasure, nurses, massage therapists, escorts and so forth. Conveniences like vehicles, general appliances, beauty products the vast majority of things that we own and value. It governs the adult relationships we have that are tit for tat, give and take desirous and passionate in nature.

We have a lot of ideals and beliefs and stories that must be let go of so that we can access a healthier relationship with the things of this world, relationships and the stuff we consume, delicious wines, chocolates, fragrances and such. (remember it is aspecting in a square to Neptune, the God of illusion, delusion and mysticism). High expectations and lofty relationship ideals will be put to the test and eventually be met with the hard reality of Saturn. Meaningful relationships take work. Frankly, given the lack of structure and security in the collective consciousness, relationships are going to be taking a backseat to the more important components of life: food, shelter, money, clothing. If we are into relationships and pleasure-seeking, there can be a lot of experimentation here but nothing is going to pan out. Again, our desires and passions are steeped in delusion and false expectations. These will be eliminated and put to the test.

No matter what happens externally, stay internally fulfilled. This is a time to engage in spiritual pursuits for pleasure-seeking that is of a higher dimensional level than the earthy mundane physical pleasures. Venus in a fire sign wants to rise higher, especially in Sagittarius which is the highest of all fire signs, the most matured and expanded ambitions. This Venus will eventually come into aspect from Mars in his home sign of Aries. That adds a level of passion and intensity to the collective inspiration for bhakti or rapture through some avenue of life, for the masses that’s namely materialistic endeavors.

During a Capricorn solar cycle, Venus rules the 10th and 5th house from the Sun. It’s where our external actions and creative passions get diluted and thwarted, purified into the spirit in order to strengthen our lives and make it better or to undo one’s structures and fall down the mountain that Capricorn is climbing. Remember that you’re not seeing things clearly at the moment (none of us are). Neptune is in a tight square to Venus. We don’t quite know what decisions will lend to our overall purpose and fulfillment.

Reconsider your relationship with materials and the pleasures of this world. What do you really value and need? Perhaps you’ll find that having too much holds you down from experiencing more freedom. Maybe you want to save every extra penny you have to take long distance foreign trips once the state of the world opens up again. Sagittarius rules over foreign lands and cultures. Many people with planets in Sagittarius love foreign cultures and travel and have a zestful sense of adventure.

The current system incentivizes the most negative and toxic elements of materialism and forces many into bondage. This is part of the karmic drama, all the same.

The only way the currently exploitative deregulated capitalist system comes to an end (or changes) is if we stop excessively consuming. We must simply refuse to buy the latest iPhone or the latest gadget and trinket. We boycott it on mass. We find out what matters the most in life, relationships and experiences — not things. Sadly, that won’t happen. The masses are in delusion, programmed by advertising dollars that keep them in a cycle of constant yearning for Jupiter-like fulfillment, true meaning, in a place where it cannot be found, the realm of Asuras — Venus.

They will be continue to be propagandized by the greater forces of control, driving them to the checkout counters, possessing them to sleep in tents on sidewalks and brave the elements just to spend thousand of dollars on a watch or phone. As Venus does deal with the sensual and materialistic avenues of life, we might not have much interest in it and we might not get much out of it now, just wasted energy and a self-undoing. It is in the 12th house from Capricorn, it can either support it, through righteous action and appropriate outlets for pleasure. It means that we can make decisions that lead to fulfillment that lasts a long time. Or…it can be our self undoing, breaking down all of our structure and flinging us off of the mountain of achievement Capricorn attempts to climb.
