Sun moves into Capricorn on December 21st, 2020. This solar cycle is a time when our self esteem, personal power, inspiration and positivity becomes watered down. Rather than acting on inspiration and passion, the heat of fire, we act with trepidation after considering our responsibilities and duties. Capricorn is the most matured of all earth signs, as it is at the end of the zodiac. The Sun’s transit through any sign gives power and consistency; he is the king, the soul. This movable earth sign is no longer concerned with the rather immature themes of Taurus, personal materialistic fulfillment, nor with those of Virgo, work and service. Instead, Capricorn deals with our duty and action in the world. It is the mountain peak, isolated and lonely, just as Saturn is the furthest personal planet from the Sun. We must all climb our mountain and bear our cross.
As above, so below. As things transpire externally, through the burden of adopting much needed responsibility to garner meaning, there is an internal or psychological component too. It’s important to look clearly at where we are putting our efforts and how we are organizing our lives in this fashion. Sagittarius is about aiming high and finding lofty, inspired and far out goals to shoot for. Capricorn lays the brick and puts in the real work.
The Father-Figure Archetype Activated: Doing What Need Be Done
In fact, Doing what needs to be done in order to survive and sustain something greater is the father archetype personified. The father traditionally goes to work to support and provide for his family, not because he loves his job. It’s because the duty is far greater than one’s personal desires.
Be Careful of saying all month long…
“I want to do this but I have to ___.”
“I want to have some fun but I just have to ___.”
“I want to relax but I ___.”
Find ways to have fun in each moment, even if life feels like it is pressure-testing you.

We may be asked to self-sacrifice quite a lot of our personal joy to provide for the greater good, namely that of our family. The pressure Sun moving through Saturn’s home sign can be so great that it leads to enlightenment, or the erasure of the ego. It naturally evolves into Aquarius, the universal man, inspired through progressive service to humanity. We only become aware of the greater duty to serve humanity after we have been personally crushed by life’s natural vicissitudes.
You have the inner-strength to face adversity right now. Mars is also in his home sign. This gives greater willpower and tenacity. We will all have to work hard to support our land or home (Mars rules property in the 4th house from Capricorn). Facing intense fear to create a secure internal psychological structure will prepare you for a more outgoing external Sun cycle in January, 2021: Aquarius. With the disposition in his home sign of Aquarius, along with Jupiter, finding a tribe or network that gives you hope and shared knowledge will help set this month’s goals on the right path.
Pluto in Capricorn
Pluto gives compulsivity and the need to transform, hide or create something new, after the old has been destroyed. This is where we might shed some of our old duties we thought were prevalent, but are no longer needed. It’s like a snake shedding its skin. Pluto with the Sun wipes out the ego-self and exposes what power or control issues we might have. Pluto is concerned with rapid spiritual transformation through eliminating things, often very toxic things. Remember that it’s originally related to Scorpio, a sign related to the elimination function of the body, the anus. We may eliminate our need to have “status” or climb the “corporate ladder” during this month. Our values (Uranus in Taurus) are being completely revolutionized after all and we’re headed towards the collective socially-conscious space of Aquarius.
Mercury in Capricorn:
We are using our minds to figure out how to organize our action in the world. What skills need to be actually applied to help get us to the next level or station in life? We need to put in the work at this time. Mercury, although it is being burnt by the Sun. The Sun is applying itself to Mercury, lifting it up and empowering it to act with noble intention.
Because, once more, the lord of this solar cycle is Saturn, and conjunct a benevolent planet like Jupiter, there will be a lot of strength added to our commitments to create long-term security and structure. We may need to put a hold on materialistic pleasures and burn off karmas this month. Venus is with Ketu in the 12th sign from the Sun.
Release unhealthy ideals and desires about relationships (Square Neptune) — especially ones built on fantasies and delusions about what other people can actually offer us. Tune inward and develop a stronger relationship with yourself. Self-esteem for Capricorn is created by doing something difficult and purposeful in the world. You choose what that is. As Dr. Jordan B Peterson would say, ‘pick your burden.’ Choose what responsibility you want to bear this month. Make it something you care about and believe in.
Saturn/Jupiter Square Uranus:
We will need to accept personal responsibility and adopt a new creative way of looking at how we solve our material concerns. There is a lot of fear about discordant values popping up in the collective and it is absolutely concerning money and personal worth.
Don’t be hard on yourself! …
We feel time is slipping away quickly. 2021 is around the corner, after all!
What are you doing with your life? What mountains are you climbing up? Understand what you really value and then set your course to building your life how you see fit.
It’s time to get real and understand your limitations this month. Thanks to Jupiter in Aquarius, knowing our place in the collective will give us more hope and optimism to stay the course this month. Staying still, connecting to the silence within, skillfully bringing disparate elements of life together and then, ultimately, putting it all to work in the world.

Solutions:
- Chant the Gayatri mantra
- Do a daily root chakra exercise and ground your energy
- Find ways of calming your anxiety and worry — yes, the issues in the world are real; but your life is made up of how healthy you are internally in each moment. It’s not about the external world working the way you want it to.
- Sit with your feelings and stay committed. This will be painful (4th house Mars) but will lead you to the true secure self.
