The New Year Astrology 2022: What it Means

Trevor Scott

This year is all about moving to far-off locations and finding new ways to make a living. The predominance of earth signs and planets that have to do with land and wealth aligning says it loud and clear. Here’s a quick overview of what the chart tells about the upcoming year.

The year involves strong themes of material need, a close second being inspiration and creativity and the last being frivolous communication or intellectualization (for which there will be no patience), given the elements:

5 planets in earth | 2 in water | 1 in air | 2 in fire

Astrology Chart of New Year's Day

Libra Ascendant

Libra is a sign of movement and wandering. It is a sign of trade and commerce, giving and taking. Lastly, it represents relationships and making compromises with others. The lord of the New Year Ascendant is retrograde (going backwards/not progressing) with Mercury (a friend) and Pluto (destruction). Because of its position in an angle, this year will be one to remember in history moving forward.

There can be a lot of ego death surrounding attachments to structures and systems that will soon go out the window.

Relationships will be destroyed if they are not authentic or in alignment with one’s larger spiritual purpose (Pluto cares about the soul, not the ego/Sun).

Venus represents assets, vehicles and conveniences. These will be transformed and utterly changed.

This all ties into the US Astrological Chart:

Venus, Pluto, Mercury Conjunct Capricorn

Pluto represents the hidden, unknown and darker aspects of the self (it’s far from the light of the Sun). Venus and Mercury represent how we relate to the world around us. It’s the day to day part of living life: paying bills, eating at a restaurant, going to work etc. It’s about our ability to manage the things in our life well (Mercury) and how we enjoy our material existence (Venus). All of this must change. It will be a forced change by the wrecking ball that is Pluto. Furthermore, these planets being lords of the Ascendant, 9th and 12th houses, means that the entire year will involve northward or upward travel to a foreign place, be it literally, or metaphorically in one’s career or job (Capricorn).

Naturally, these Capricorn planets also happen to be transiting through the 2nd house (finances) of the United States. Pluto here (soon making his exact return) indicates a crumbling of the nation’s foundation or support.

Moon & Mars Conjunct Sagittarius

Moon is about our home and what we feel comfortable with. Mars agitates it, both energizing and making the emotions volatile. This fits into the Ascendant (the body of the nation) in the US Chart. Sagittarius is also about long-distance travel and foreign lands. Many will become restless and choose to expatriate to other countries due to a rising cost of living, among other factors. There will be dissolution (Neptune Square Moon) of the identity and overall feel of the US as being this “free and open” society (Sagittarius is all about wide-open spaces and roaming free).

North Node Trine Ve.Me.Pl.

The North Node is just transitioning into Taurus, but still sits in the sign of communication, ideas and our immediate environment. The trine indicates the massive changes with banking, finance and how we do work. Remote work is a thing and many of us aren’t going back to the standard office commute. Thank goodness!

The north node is moving through the 6th house (work and health) of America’s chart. While the 12th house has the South Node (letting go the toxicity in the collective).

Sun Trine Uranus on Exact Degrees

While Saturn still squares Uranus, creating instability and a lack of secure structure within the collective, the Sun harmoniously trines to Uranus, giving a stronger inspiration for using authority, personal will and intelligence in a unique, unorthodox and “against-the-grain” sort of way. This all ties into the earth element: how we make money and sustain our lives. There is the potential for a lot of meaning, purpose and inspiration this year, if one doesn’t follow the beaten path and starts doing something completely alternative (Uranus).

Jupiter Square Nodes at Critical Degree

Jupiter is situated in his strength, within the mystical, dreamy sign of Pisces. Yet, he is square to the nodes, the gateways of the future and of the past. Big dreams, hopes, wishes and ideals can be realized but only within the context of where the larger currents of life are headed (N. Node) and where we must double-back to ensure everything is in order before proceeding (S. Node).

In Conclusion

Nothing will be fixed this year, but everything will move and travel forward. Personally, I’m filling out paperwork (gathering more of it) to complete a skilled immigrant visa application for Alberta, Canada (moving north to a foreign land).

As the currency devalues, as inflation gets worse (and it will), Saturn will reign (the strongest planet in transit); there will be more surfs, huddled masses and those who are restricted — who lack the means to pay for their own freedom. Deep, deep delusion rests within people (Neptune). Do not be part of the herd (Saturn/Uranus) but break free and stand in your individual power (Sun).
