Free Will or Astrological Fate?

two roads diverge in a snowy forest trail

How much of life is predetermined by astrological phenomena? How much of life can you determine through personal choice or “free will?” We are here to burn off karma. That much is certain. Most of this involves dreadful experiences for human beings that we would never voluntarily choose. We are also here to play a particular role, as God or the universe has intended. Yet, how much room do we have to maneuver within that given role, or get rid of it altogether and take up a new one? It’s difficult to answer such questions.

The questions concerning fate and free will burn in the minds of people involved in occult practices, especially that of astrology which contains an inherently deterministic outlook. People in this field have a propensity for assuming all individual actions are attributed to some higher celestial force in the universe: spirits, heavenly bodies or something else. Granted, a similar idea of “fate” is reflected in the materialist worldview. Many scientists in the subfield of behavioral/cognitive neuroscience presume that there is no free will. How can your will be unbounded and unaffected by external variables? How can you choose to desire or not desire something? We are the product of our brain chemistry, which is determined by our upbringing and our genetics (who your biological mom and dad were). Bear in mind that we cannot choose to desire a particular thing in life. The Bible explicitly states that there is no individual personal will, only God’s will. Be that good or evil, it makes no difference. It is only God’s will being enacted through all beings.

I have ruminated upon this often. Reflecting on my own life experiences, there have been numerous transits that should have signified potential triggers for major life events. Yet…nothing happened. There were, in hindsight, rather insignificant time periods that harbored some life-altering events. I would review my chart and struggle to find any major transit at the time that would, in the slightest, coincide with a particular event. I kept searching for that “Ah-Ha” moment. But it just wasn’t there. When my progressed Venus stationed retrograde at age 15, I fell into romantic love. This works on 90 percent of charts, I might add. With my Venus in Scorpio conjunct the north node, the romanticism was pretty much an illusion and the reality beneath it was like the poisonous tail of the scorpion. I digress.

There are times when key events really do get triggered but there is never a guarantee that anything will actually happen. The potential for it activates on some “quantum” level. It begs the question, though. How much of our own perceptions and thoughts play into manifesting major life events, as opposed to just the mysterious energetic influence of planets? I can recall that there had been periods in my life where I had intensely visualized my desire and had it come to pass in the exact shape and manner of my visualization. Ironically, the visualization materialized during the transits that signified those very things: job, income, romantic partner or otherwise. The visualization was picture perfect. I even got the facial expressions and words spoken down pat. All of it was exactly what I had mentally crafted, projected out upon reality. Astrologers often overlook the power of visualization and mental focus.

For “astrologers” to assume that every single thing that happens in life is at the behest of planetary influence, is to kill Christ, as it were. It is to disempower and delude one’s self. You become imprisoned. If we truly have zero choice in our lives, then there would be no point in reading astrology charts. Everything would be irreparably set in stone. Tapping into the creative power behind astrology is how you break past the illusion of entrapment to planetary forces. Our free will must rest in our ability to imagine, to choose a new dream or mental picture.

I would take it even further still…dare I say it…

You don’t need an astrologer or an astrology reading. You need to know yourself, come to yourself and accept yourself fully. The process of self-acceptance can also involve changing mental conversations, choosing to feel positive emotions for things that don’t yet exist and cultivating particular spiritual virtues. This path requires true bravery. The coward seeks to find succor and supplication in external sources of perceived security. Due to fear or insecurity, one might attempt to escape from internal weakness and turn to external “authorities” — those of whom we assume to know more or hold more wisdom: spiritual teachers, sages, guidance counselors, high status careerists, professionals or academics. Astrology is fun, interesting and exciting, especially when the shot-in-the-dark predictions actually work! I’m just saying. Most “internet astrologers” make dozens of predictions and brag to high heaven when one or two happen to be somewhat correct. *not naming any names here...*

So much of our outer world is a reflection of our conditioned mind, our moods and The insecurities come through in the aura. It’s the vibe you put out to others. People have natural psychic faculties and can pick up on it, completely unconsciously, mind you. If you’re insecure about your sexuality, people will make hurtful insults to you about it. If you are uncomfortable being mixed race or black, everywhere you go, other people will make insensitive comments, micro-aggressions or even act in racist ways against you. If you want others to accept you, they will reject you.

If you need money, you will struggle to make any. If you’re insecure about your hair, someone will be bound to mention that too, but ton no fault of their own. Most people operate unconsciously, on autopilot. therefore, there is no free will. There is only consciousness animating others. This pattern goes on and on.

Other people, in a sense, have no free will. They are represented by the archetypes of astrology and by the unconscious patterns in our minds. You can even determine how other people will respond to you, talk to you and react by crafting enough of a narrative in your own mind. This is a powerful tool to be used. That’s not to say, however, that reality somehow “doesn’t exist.” Or that there exist no things beyond our control that we just have to deal with in life. There clearly are. It is to say that we have some level of control over what happens.

I feel pity for those who take astrology too seriously or get trapped in the world of astrological-superstitious fervor. The true battle is within, not without. The true path is within. This world will drive you insane, if you give your power to it. Rather than live consumed by the ego, choose to turn within, rejecting both materialism and ‘spiritual-bypassing.’ By moving beyond and moving deeper into embodying your true self, the world’s corruption and insanity cannot penetrate you as deeply, let alone treat you as a raging ocean storm would a boat.

Working on Yourself and Forgoing Astrology

Astrology points to our weaker points, but also our strengths. It’s important to figure out how to overcome your own astrological predilections in the form of subconscious behavioral patterns. All which exists externally, must be within. This includes the stars. The astrologer is actually a physical manifestation of our karma. He or she merely plays their designated role in accordance with our personal karmic blueprint. Even the astrological reading itself (a highly subjective experience) is based on karmas that tie into our unconscious mental habits and emotional states. Whether or not a reading is helpful or counter-productive is determined by our internal state.

Our actions and thoughts matter. What we feed into our consciousness matters. It creates. That means no disturbingly graphic TV shows, in the same way that one who is healthy does not eat processed junk food every day. Knowing that you have such a power, you have a moral duty that comes along with it. You have a responsibility to create ethically and transmute energy in a positive lovely fashion — not to spread hatred and malice to those who you deem to be “evil.” The irony is that the evil that you see in others manifests outward from you. Thou shalt not kill means that you cannot kill a state of being. The state of mind that gave rise to someone’s bloodlust and murderous habits did not die with the killer. Strapping him up to the chair or hanging him is just a temporary fix. Reincarnation is inevitable. The state of being will return.

There will be others who reincarnate with the same mind, the same imagination. They will pick up where he left off. You think Hitler was killed? Did the witch burners of Salem disappear? No. They all exist now, in our current era, just in different forms. The roles human beings play shift and reverse quite frequently. The slave must become a slaveowner and vice a versa. The white supremacists must reincarnate as a black American. The man who hates homosexuality, must reincarnate as one within an anti-gay religious household. On this merry-go-round, there is no free will. There stands yet a potential for it. One could imagine differently. One could shift the mind away from hatred or prejudice.

Hatred functions as a magnetism for the mind. It draws unto it that which it dwells upon. This is on the individual and collective. We live in the most hateful society that has ever existed. All manner of hateful concepts and ideologies can become activated or charged on the collective level. This is a true danger and horror. We are seeing the current power structure attempt to normalize particular memes or ideas within the collective mind. This is an attempt to use the inherent creative power of God, which entails some level of free will, within each person against their interests. It’s truly evil. The power of imagination and the power of God is working constantly. It is no respecter of persons. It works for an evil human being as often as for a good one. In a certain sense there is no free will to choose because there is no awareness of alternative ways of being. There is not enough conscious awareness to make a better choice — both as individuals and as society. So here we are. We are in the process of manifesting a natural disaster or a third world war. It will occur and humanity will destroy itself. We must take back personal power and autonomy now and tap into our inner-world. This might mean taking your astrology chart and burning it. If that is what it takes to set you free….not to invoke Nike’s brand messaging here, but just do it.

Astrological Fate, Collective Imagination & Humanity’s Future

We are entering the 6th Mass Extinction. By 2050, if we are to believe what the science suggests, most bumble bees will have gone extinct; even astrologically we see a great drought in the world economy. This is caused by having exploited every natural resource we could until nothing is left to draw upon. The capitalists will no longer be able to make their money. It will be the end. It also shows the end of most of this world’s population. Most crops will not yield a harvest. There will be no food, no clean water (high PH levels in the ocean) and no clean air. (Co2-carbon dioxide emissions). We have collectively imagined a dystopia, not a utopia. We have projected evil upon this world in order to play out a drama and work out a collective karma. This has gotten out of hand. How can we work out karma if we nuke ourselves off the face of the Earth? Exactly. The imagination or mental patterns of the world must change. An internal change must occur, something profound and spiritually life-altering must touch people. If it does not, if we continue to rely on materialism and outdated religious doctrine (participation in which has seen a considerable decline) we will destroy ourselves. Other forms of life will continue. Karma will work itself out through these forms and the Godhead will manifest himself through new beings. Eckhart Tolle, the new age spiritual teacher, has made mention of this on several occasions in his talks. Namely, he speaks of the new consciousness that is entering the planet out of necessity, since we’re running out of time. This consciousness will be more accessible now due to so many planets having moved into Aquarius in 2021.
