Chiron in Aries for All Signs: Overcoming the Pain of Ego

Trevor Scott

Chiron is an asteroid that is symbolic of pure pain, as well as the unique key to where we may grow the most during our soul’s journey through this plane of dense physical matter. Chiron, in common Greek mythology, is known for being able to heal others but not himself, despite his immortality. So, depending on where Chiron is in your chart, and what aspects it undergoes, there can be clues as to how well you are able to heal others in a particular area of life, what blocks might arise from taking the healer’s path and where pain can be triggered through karmic life events (events that are pre-planned before birth for the purpose of spiritual evolution).

Chiron also offered up his immortality to free prometheus (Uranus) from his punishment, showing us a connection between our pain being a key or a pathway to liberation in our psyche. Prometheus was a forward-thinking man, having brought fire down to mankind to aid the collective wellbeing (very Aquarian). But he was condemned to eternal torture by the spiteful Gods upon discovery of what he did. This is symbolic of the punishment and scorn many visionaries and activists receive when they are too ahead of their time for the powers that be. Chiron (pain) therefore plays a role in liberation from earthly torment. The glyph of Chiron is quite literally in the shape of a key.

Chiron’s Transit and the Coming World

Chiron has been transiting through Aries since April 17th, 2018 (where it was conjunct with Mercury in Aries) and will continue to do so until the July 2026, when it finally enters into Taurus (painful financial wounds for the masses). The masses will need to heal internal emotional pain with regards to the material security has been lost to them and the newfound world of scarcity that they find themselves embedded in. Chiron, after exiting Aries and entering Taurus, will square Venus in Leo (assets, money and relationships) and Pluto in Aquarius (transformation of the masses through socialism or an egalitarian cultural movement). This foretells a new lesson for humanity and the breaking down of the ego to let in a new state of consciousness — the God or “I am” presence of being.

In the distant future, due to the destructive effects of deregulated capitalism (global corporatism/greed), global warming and the gradual death of pollinators (Bees are going extinct, leading to crop shortage/starvation) as a byproduct of the Sixth Mass Extinction Period that we are currently moving through, the halcyon period of American abundance will be a distant memory of the past. We are entering the age of Saturn, or as many deem it: the “Age of Aquarius.” It’s not all sunshine and chanting “Kumbaya My Lord,” as many New Age personalities would have you believe. Karma will still play out and Chiron will play his role in it too. Chiron’s role isn’t just to be painful. It’s to wake us up from our deep sleep in the ego.

Saturn, moreover, governing the sign of Aquarius, is about universal service or sacrifice to man…and…more conventionally known for: restriction, burdens, contraction, depression, coldness and rigid structures. Saturn is commonly associated with suffering and is intimately connected with Chiron (ego-based pain), due to Saturn (Cronus or time) being Chiron’s father. This came about after Cronus had an affair with an ocean nymph. Those details aren’t too important for now.

Remember that the sign of Aquarius is also jointly ruled by ‘Ouranus,’ (no pun intended) Uranus, the father of the sky. The planet often signifies liberation, freedom, originality, chaos, breakthroughs, eunuchs, homosexuals, rebels and geniuses. It’s fiercely opposed to the rigid, repetitive and structured nature of Saturn.

This alone is an example of the universal law of polarity; a state of being cannot exist without an exact dialectical opposite. So too exists the dichotomy of Chiron’s deeply rooted nature, being spawned from a warrior race of violent war-like centaurs, and his role in the world as a peaceful, wise and knowledgable healer. Chiron’s tranquil, wise and peaceful nature came from his foster parents, Apollo (Sun) and Artemis (Moon) — a symbolic expression of what we observe as nature versus nurture in the cosmic mythos.

Chiron’s Importance

Suffering actually causes spiritual growth, wisdom, humility and strong character. It brings clarity, and cuts through the fluff of life. Although we probably don’t wish suffering on anyone else and we certainly wouldn’t want to experience it for ourselves ever again, suffering has undoubtedly spurred more spiritual growth than joy has. Without it, we wound’t have the motivation to evolve or push towards liberation from cyclical rebirth.

Chiron is strictly associated with pain, and the healing abilities we may have to offer others. Chiron has an affinity for the sign of Virgo, health, purity and healing. He is therefore uncomfortable in Pisces, the opposite sign. Before Chiron entered Aries and triggered the pain of the individual self, it moved through Pisces, where painful spiritual longing and the confusion for material to immaterial.

During Chiron’s transit through Pisces, which ranged from April 19th, 2010 to 2017, there was a sharp awakening of pain with regards to the collective imagination, spiritual longing and connection to the subtler realms of spirit. This was a time when people felt the pull towards spirituality, the oneness with or connection to the higher worlds, yet uncomfortable with being in the business of the world. The duality between chaos and practicality was foremost in the consciousness of humanity.

Now, our collective healing comes down to the dichotomy of the self and its relationship to other people. Chiron in Aries gives us great opportunities to heal the self-esteem and confidence of others, but maybe (ironically) not our own. People need only so little encouragement to excel in life, and they often do not receive it. As a result of a wounded self-concept, relationships become unbalanced (opposite sign of Aries is Libra). The more we heal the self, the better our relationships (the mirror manifestation) will become.
