The HOUSES
The 12 Houses of Astrology Explained
The 12 Houses are modeled from the 12 zodiac signs and represent concrete and distinct areas of life. Knowing the houses is an integral part of understanding astrology as a whole. They are referred to as the unconscious limbs of God. These areas of life “animate” whenever planets enter into them or aspect them.

The 1st House – Ascendant
The First House, otherwise known as the Ascendant, represents the life path of an individual, their physical body, personality, and health. The sign rising on the eastern horizon during the time of birth, the asking of a question, or the partaking of an event is the body of that particular person or thing: the First House.
The 2nd House
The Second House represents finances, family life, material security, self-worth, and all that supports the physical existence — namely food and money. It corresponds to the or fixed earth sign of Taurus.
3rd House
The Third House is the place of siblings, teammates, neighbors, short-distance trips, hobbies, skills, crafts, and the way in which one communicates.
4th House – Imum Coeli
The Fourth House is the root of a birth chart, the foundation, or the home. It represents family ties, domestic matters, early education, the emotions, and the level of contentment one feels throughout life. This is also a ruler of vehicles, conveniences, and the relationship to the mother.
5th House
The Fifth House is all about creativity, children, romance, speculative investment, passion, and intelligence. This house is very fun and creative being originally related to the fire sign of Leo. It governs our inspirations and creative potential.
6th House
The Sixth House is a place of diseases, obstacles, enemies, work, and routine. How we go about our daily work is indicated here. It’s also an indicator of how well we handle the inevitable difficulties in life and how we engage with enemies and setbacks.
7th House – Descendant
The Seventh House, the DC, is the sign that is on the western horizon, opposite the rising sign. It represents other people and our relationship to them. This house governs marriage, business partnerships, and all dealings with other people, whether good or ill. It’s the incomplete part of us that must be integrated.
8th House
The Eight House is a place of death, sex, taxes, and in-laws. It represents sudden crises that force change, psychological wounds, and death of the ego. Fundamentally, this is a place of radical transformation and healing.
9th House
The 9th House is the place of religious beliefs and faith. It rules over higher education, publishing, long-distance travel, foreign cultures, and teachers. It’s also where one finds purpose, meaning, and self-expansion.
10th House – Midheaven
This is the highest point in the chart, the MC, the place where one is seen or noticed. It’s a house of effort, authority figures, fame, government, and the father. People with a prominent midheaven are often career-driven and status-obsessed.
11th House
The Eleventh House is a place of hopes, wishes, dreams, and friends. It rules over monetary gains from investment. This is a place of larger social structures and institutions. Your network circle or lack thereof is seen here.
12th House
This is the final house, the Twelfth House of the unconscious. It’s a place of dreams, foreign lands, places of seclusion, psychological self-undoing, sexual pleasure, psychic ability, secrets, and one’s “end game,” or “end goals” and hidden intentions.
